Visit by UK Foreign Secretary
A visit was made by the UK Foreign Secretary, David Milliband MP to the McNulty facility in South Shields. During his visit the Foreign Secretary met with both Management and the McNulty workforce and listened with interest to the news that McNulty had been selected to forge a commercial partnership with A & P Tyne who together will work with BAE Systems on part of the new generation of aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy.
The Foreign Secretary said "This is very good news for the town, as this work will utilise the skills of the local workforce and safeguard the future of the yards on the Tyne."
Steve Keyworth the Managing Director added "McNulty will join with A & P Tyne to form an aircraft carrier alliance which it is hoped will result in sections of work being shared between both companies yards in South Shields and Hebburn. This should allow greater continuity, which is what we have lacked at a time when there are far too many peaks and troughs in the offshore industry."
